Re: how to best organize your floss

I did keep my DMC threads on the DMC stitchbows in the wallets, but I found it annoying take all the bows out to put new threads in the correct numerical order so I changed to bobbins. But then I found bobbins left dents in the thread so I have changed to Floss Away bags, small zip lock bags 5" x 3" that I keep in boxes.

Re: how to best organize your floss

Hi hope you are enjoying the joys of xstitch and the fun of finding what patterns you prefer!
I keep my floss from previous projects in floss boxs numbered DMC/Anchor/Venus etc. When I am working on a project I use resealable small bags with the color number & symbol for the project I am stitching. I can re-use the bags for other projects many times. I don't know if anyone else does this but I find it a good way for me.
Hope you find a way that suits you, from all the ideas different ladies have sent to you. Happy stitching!!!

Re: how to best organize your floss

I put mine on the plastic bobbins, use preprinted numbered labels from DMC, and store them numerically in 6 plastic, sectioned craft organizers. I'm very happy with this method. I started cross-stitching and storing floss way before the stitchbow system came out and have too much time / money in my current system, but if you're just starting the stitchbow systems seems like it would be great.

Re: how to best organize your floss

HI, I am using small "ziploc" bags with two punched holes , on rings, each color has its own baggie, when I need the colors I just take what I need and put it on a smaller set of rings for my lastest project. I also found that I can easily hang my round of thread on my peg board next to the rest of my supplies. it may take a minute or two to find a color but I seem to know where most of them are. Hope you find something that works for you.

Re: how to best organize your floss

I use the plastic bobbins and store them in a large sectioned storage boxes in numerical order, I have about 5 boxes holding all my threads which I have built up over the years. When I am doing a project I just take out the bobbins I need and put them into a smaller storage box.

DMC do a fantastic stitch bow system, which means the thread will fit over the bow with no unwinding, and then you can slot the thread label on the slot on the side of the stichbow. DMC then offers 2 options to store the bows, either in a box, or in wallets in a file. Their website is www.DMC.com

Re: how to best organize your floss

You can get bobbin "threaders" at any craft store. Sometimes it's just as easy to do it by hand. I use the plastic caddies sold at all craft stores and keep them in numerial order (DMC and Anchor). I select what I need for a project and put them in a separate caddy and put them back when the project is finished. Whichever system you use will be great for you when you get used to it. Have fun.

Re: how to best organize your floss

Dear Oceanbum,

That suggestion as to how to organize my floss sounds great, but I have a few questions. How do you get the floss on bobbins? I am guessing by hand or by your sewing machine right? Then do you label each slot with the individual numbers? Is there only one color per slot or drawer? Please e-mail at dccraner@hotmail.com
Thanks, Debi

Re: how to best organize your floss

I have all of my floss on the plastic bobbins you can buy at any craft store. Then I bought one of those nuts & bolts organizers you get in a hardware store. I put my flosses in there arranged in order by numer. I LOVE this system!!! Whenever I start a project I can just go to the organizer and pull out the colors I will need and see which ones I need to get. I feel SO organized!!! It sure beats the paper sack I used to keep it all in!!!

Re: how to best organize your floss

I know that the new Stitch Bow system has just come out recently but I haven't tried it myself. I have been stitching for years and the best gift that my husband ever bought me was a fishing tackle box with three sectioned trays that are the perfect size for the thread bobbins that you can get at Walmart or pretty much anywhere that sells stitching supplies. There is also a large tray on the top good for keeping larger items such as fabric, small hoops, waist canvas, etc. There is a small tray on top that is perfect for needles, threaders, thimble, etc. I absolutely love this box as I can take it with me and have everything I need in one place. You might want to get something smaller for small take along projects but this is the best for keeping everything together. Good luck and happy stitching.
