stamped cross stitch

I ordered a stamped cross stitch project and when I began to sew, I found that all the little xxx began to swim together and it became impossible to differentiate where one x started and the next began, especially where there was a half stitch. Also, the stitches looked sloppy and uneven. I decided to use Aida cloth and turn it into a counted cross stitch project. Anyone have any hints or is this a common problem?

Re: stamped cross stitch

Has anyone tried to add an extra strand of floss to a stamped kit. It might fill in the gaps.

If they are dimensions kits you can get a conversion from dimensions to dmc or achor floss and steal from your stash.

Re: stamped cross stitch

Trying stamped cross stitch for the first time. Doing a small square table, using variegated threads, but not sure I would want to this kind of stitching regularly. Only maybe if the design was something that really takes my eye.

Re: stamped cross stitch

Ordered a kit in and did not realize it was stamped.
Boy I felt like I was fighting the material so it became a flying UFO and would not do it!!!

Some of you girls must have more paitience than me LOL
My mother did a lot of stamped embroidery.
She does not think she could do cross stitch LOL

Re: stamped cross stitch

I've only tried stamped cross stitch once and never again. It was awful.

Re: stamped cross stitch

Did a baby sampler a few years ago. Came as stamped but counted is much prettier when finished. If your instructions include a good chart you can do your own counting from the instructions.

Re: stamped cross stitch

Years ago I did some projects using stamped cross stitch, and I found that my thread did not always cover the mark on the fabric when I was finished. I gave up on the technique. When I discovered counted cross stitch, I realized that I wouldn't have this problem. Recently I have seen some attractive kits with stamped designs, and I am tempted to try this again. Does the stamped pattern wash out of the fabric? I never tried to wash my projects. Thanks.

Re: stamped cross stitch

Unfortunately this is a common problem with stamped cross stitch.
