lighting

I hate to admit it but I don't see as well as I used to. I have a project that I am wanting to do that is on 28 count linen and am afraid that I won't be able to see well enough to do it. I have heard that there is some type of light to put under your work that helps the holes to show up better. Can anyone tell me what this light is and where to purchase one. I tried looking online but I don't seem to be able to find anything. Thanks so much for any help.

Re: lighting

I also know that the Daylight company (based in Britian I think), has an uplight that you sit on your lap and it shines up thru the bottom of your work. This is supposed to really help when you work on dark fabrics. Hope you find something that works for you.

Re: lighting

I use Foster Grant 2.75 magnifying glasses while I stitch..it brings the holes up closer and easier to see where I am placing the needle. They cost about 14.99 and can be found at Walmart stores.

Re: lighting

Try http://www.laplight.co.uk/. They offer a light that sits on your lap to shine light up thru your work. It's kind of like those lap desks, the ones that are a piece of wood or plastic with a beanbag on the underside that conforms to the lap. They're not cheap, but I think it's a worthwhile investment. (I've bought one but haven't yet used it, so I can't give a personal testimonial.)

Re: lighting

Looks great to me, Sharon!!! I have seen those and wondered if they worked. I may have to check into one for myself. I guess I'll be a "five eyes" then, too!!!

Re: lighting

I thought I would have to stop doing such fine work but I have bought a magnifying "thing" It looks like a miners light and it is the best thing - no strain at all and I can see everything.
It is very light and you can still watch the tv while cross stitching! My husband laughs at me and it's not a good look but my finished work is!!
I am going to try to add a link to our family website which has a picture of me wearing it - if it doesn't work please email me and I will send you the details - my email is sharon_cairns@iprimus.com.au

Re: lighting

I have found positioning a strong light directed at the work but below my eye level helps. I also use a piece of white fabric on my knees when working dark cloth and a piece of black fabric on my knees when working light cloth helps immensely. Keep experimenting with lighting as the finished product is so much nicer on lin than aida

Re: lighting

I'm in the same situation as you. I have never seen a light that you actually put under your work. What I do is put a light colored cloth - tea towel, hand towel - something like that. I need extra good lighting above me work also. Seems to help me, but unfortunately, I have "graduated" to aida cloth - 18 and 16 ct rather than the linens. Good luck!
